Board Chair - Matthew Vorderstrasse
With over 20 years of experience in housing development and community leadership, Matthew Vorderstrasse has played a pivotal role in reshaping Oregon’s housing and shelter landscape. His work has directly led to the creation of hundreds of shelter beds, multiple tiny house and shelter communities, and a few hundred units of affordable and supportive housing across Oregon.
Matthew was a founding leader of Compass House, one of Oregon’s first peer-led mental health recovery communities, and has since guided numerous housing and service initiatives focused on building stability, dignity, and opportunity for people experiencing homelessness.
Today, as Executive Director of the North Bend City and Coos-Curry Housing Authorities, Matthew leads the largest housing provider on Oregon’s South Coast, advancing regional strategies that connect shelter, housing, and supportive services into a coordinated system of care.
As Board Chair of Unity Homes, he brings this same vision to the organization—supporting the creation of attainable, high-quality homes and empowering rural communities to build sustainable housing solutions that meet local needs.
